Making a difference in the South Memphis Community
South Side Wildcats
McLemore in Memphis, TN under the leadership of Pastor Neal Generette has generated a sincere passion for igniting the youth in the neighborhood by partnering with Grace Evangelical and Cross Check Athletics of Germantown, TN to use athletics as a vehicle to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The South Side Wildcats, is a Christian based football team and cheerleading squad under the leadership of Minister Antwone Clark and Mario Carver. The Cheerleading Team is under the tutelage of Mrs. Maria Clark and Mrs. Cara Carver. The program involves boys and girls ages 5-12 years old. The South Side Wildcats recently wrapped up their 2013 football season where approximately 40 inner-city kids grades 1st -6th participated. The kids had a spectacular year with an overall record of 14-10 and was very well-behaved. As a result, the church, coaches and parents all participated and provided an out-standing banquet to honor the kids hard work. This was a great opportunity to expose them to something outside of their every-day environment and will hopefully keep them inspired to achieve success. Un-fortunately, most of the participants are from single-parent homes and have never been outside of their neighbor-hood. Being able to play every game and cheer at a Class A facility was a great experience. This year the South Side Wildcats were also blessed to have three (3) of the athletes to receive Christ into their lives and two (2) were baptized during the course of the season. |
The overall goal of this program is to instill in the children the ideas of being good Christian, good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty and a sense of dedication and teamwork so that they may become strong, healthy, well-adjusted members of society.
